TCA, Hoopers NY’s Iris Azcona Verbals to Butler Women’s Hoops

Trenton Catholic Academy, Hoopers NY 2022 combo guard Iris Azcona has committed to the Butler University Women’s Basketball program, yesterday Hoopers NY Tweeted.

In limited action at TCA, Azcona scored 56 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in nine contests as a sophomore in the 2019-20 campaign.

But Hoopers NY Head Coach Dan Melious sang the praises of Azcona’s play and character, not to mention her impressive work in the classroom, as she sports a 4.2 GPA.

“She’s a gym rat,” Melious said in an article earlier in the month on BrooklynSportsWorld.com. “She shoots with range, is a tough on-ball defender, strong, and sees the court well. Plus, she’s smart, has a high (basketball) IQ, and loves the game.”

Butler posted a 19-11 record and went 17-11 in Big East Conference action last year.
