New York Mets pitcher David Peterson tossed 5 2/3 innings of two-run ball, allowing seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts in his MLB debut, an 8-3 victory against the Boston Red Sox Tuesday night at Fenway Park.
Peterson struggled for the first three months of last year with Double-A Binghamton but finished strong with a 3-6 record and a 4.19 ERA in 116 innings of work in 24 games. Furthermore, the southpaw pitched well in the hitter-friendly Arizona Fall League, as well as Spring Training and Summer Camp with the Mets.
Peterson, the Mets No. 10 overall minor leaguer on MLB.com, tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings in an intrasquad game on Wednesday, fanning starting outfielders Brandon Nimmo and Michael Conforto.
