The Long Island Ducks today announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Joe Iorio, who begins his fourth season with the Ducks and eighth in professional baseball.
Winning the Atlantic League crown in 2019, the West Islip native said that this season’s Long Island team has the same feel as the last championship squad, making him excited to return to the fold.
“I’m really excited to be coming back for my fourth season with the Ducks,” Iorio said on LIDucks.com. “This year’s team reminds me of the 2019 season, and it is our goal to meet that standard and bring another championship to Long Island.”
Iorio paced Long Island with 11 wins while posting a 4.58 ERA and 83 strikeouts to 43 walks over 129.2 innings in 2022.
The 31-year-old has amassed a 30-10 record with a 4.11 ERA, one complete game and 248 strikeouts to 123 walks over 385.2 innings in his three years with the Ducks.
Moreover, Iorio extoled the virtues of his manager, the fans and his beloved hometown.
“I look forward to playing again for a great manager in Wally Backman, playing in front of the best fans in the Atlantic League and coming home to New York to play in front of my family,” Iorio added.
Prior to joining Long Island, Iorio spent four seasons (2015-18) in the Frontier League, pitching with the Washington WildThings, Southern Illinois Miners and River City Rascals.
