The Long Island Ducks of Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (ALPB) today have signed righty pitcher Reed Hayes, the Ducks announced via Twitter.
Hayes begins his first season with the Ducks and sixth in professional baseball.
“I am very excited to be joining the Long Island Ducks,” Hayes said on LIDucks.com. “I spent a summer here after my sophomore year in high school playing summer baseball, so I am excited to be back in the area. My goal for the season is to help the team win a championship.”
The 27-year-old posted an impressive 2.74 ERA with a 1-2 record, six saves and 28 strikeouts over 23 innings of work in 19 games with the Gateway Grizzles of the Frontier League in 2022.
Additionally, the 6-foot-2, 190-pound Hayes pitched in seven contests during the 2021 season with the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the American Association.
The Tennessee native kicked off his career in the Baltimore Orioles organization after they selected him in the 13th round of the 2017 MLB Amateur Draft out of Vanderbilt University. He spent four campaigns in the Orioles’ system, reaching as high as Double-A Bowie, where he recorded six saves and 88 strikeouts over 97.2 innings of work.
