Mikai Johnson, a receiver/cornerback on James Madison’s (Brooklyn, N.Y.) football team, has picked up offers from Division III Morrisville, Buffalo State, Utica and Alfred State while teammate Amir Cameron, the squads’ quarterback, has received offers from Morrisville, Buffalo State and Alfred State, per their Twitter accounts.
Former Madison JV football coach Nick Nugent, who is the current linebackers coach at Walsh University Sprint, sang the praises of the seniors.
“He (Johnson) is one of the best players in the city, in my opinion,” Nugent, who coached both players on the Golden Knights’ JV team, said in a November BrooklynSportsWorld.com article. “One of the best all-around athletes on the team, if you ask me. One of the fastest kids I’ve seen. He can play college football.”
Johnson ran for 170 yards on 12 touches with two touchdowns and 124 yards on four attempts and one score, respectively, in the regular season and playoffs in 2022. He also caught 14 passes for 286 yards and two touchdowns.
As for Cameron, Nugent said at the time, “He’s having a heck of a year. He led the team to a Bowl Championship (last year).”
Cameron completed 43 of 76 passes for 753 yards and nine touchdowns during the regular season and went 13 for 26 with 110 yards and two scores. He also rushed for 112 yards on 24 carries with three touchdowns in the regular season and added a touchdown in the postseason.
Morrisville posted a 7-3 overall record and went 3-3 in State University of New York (SUNY) conference action in the 2022 campaign.
