Atlantic League Baseball News: Pitchers Whitmore, Walden Grab the Spotlights

Yesterday, on the 50th Anniversary of Title IX, Staten Island FerryHawks’ female pitcher Kelsie Whitmore retired the side in order against the first place Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.

But the FerryHawks lost, 12-3, to Southern Maryland.

Title IX states that no person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial funding.

In other Atlantic League news, the Milwaukee Brewers purchased the contract of Gastonia Honey Hunters’ right-handed pitcher Marcus Walden on Wednesday, per media reports.

Walden, who last pitched in MLB for the Boston Red Sox in 2020, made 93 appearances in the big leagues for parts of three seasons with the same team, posting a 4.50 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 12.3 K-BB% over 106 innings. The 33-year-old will report to Triple-A Nashville with his new organization.
