Chatham junior outfielder/shortstop Remmey McEnroe waited patiently for her pitch, with the game tied at 3-3 and runners on second and third and two outs in the bottom of the seventh.
McEnroe got her pitch and did not waste time, as she proceeded to lace a line drive down the leftfield line, scoring the winning run from third and helping the Cougars (1-5) pick up the 4-3 victory over Ridgewood (1-4-1), for their first win of the 2022 season Saturday at Chatham Middle School Field.
Junior pitcher Ashley McNelis went the distance, striking out seven batters for the Cougars. But their infield defense threw the ball away a few times, allowing two unearned runs to cross the plate, and the offense ran themselves out of rallies a couple of times.
However, junior centerfielder Kennedey Gicas kept Chatham in the tilt with two impressive catches in the outfield before its offense came through in the clutch in the end.
Junior Ava Smith went 2-3 while McEnroe clubbed two hits and drove in two runners. Junior catcher Sophie Koehler scored two runs and pegged a runner at third.
