Three pitchers–Chase De Jong, Austin Brice and Yerry De Los Santos— combined to toss a 5-0 no-hitter for the Indianapolis Indians, the Triple-A affiliate of the Pittsburg Pirates, against the St. Paul Saints (Minnesota Twins) last night.
De Jong, who pitched for Team Skeeters of the Constellation Energy League, a four-team league started in the summer 2020 during the COVID-19 Pandemic, played with the Sugar Land Skeeters, who were part of the independent Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (ALPB) at the time, in 2019.
De Jong went seven innings, allowing just two walks with nine strikeouts. Brice and De Los Santos pitched one inning apiece, with the latter closing out the game for the Indians.
The Pirates signed De Jong to a minor league free agent deal in March of 2022 and invited him to spring training. Pittsburg later assigned him to Indianapolis.
The Toronto Blue Jays selected De Jong in the second round of the 2012 MLB June Amateur Draft.
