Junior goalie Yoel Ovadya of the Division III Drew University (N.J.) men’s lacrosse team will compete for the Turkish National Team in the European Qualifiers Tournament from April 11-16 in Wroclaw, Poland.
The European Qualifiers will be the first time Turkey is fielding a lacrosse squad in the tournament. Turkey will participate in Group A along with Wales, Denmark, Spain, Latvia, and Slovakia. The top-three teams in the group will qualify for the World Cup, which will be held from June 21-July 1, 2023, in San Diego.
In his first season of action with the Rangers in 2022, Ovadya has played in five games, posting a .545 save percentage and a 9.82 goals-against average while making 18 saves over 91 minutes. In Ovadya’s top performance of the campaign, the 5-foot-8, 195-pounder had stopped six potential goals–including two in overtime–while playing the final 37 minutes of Drew’s 11-10 victory over Manhattanville Tuesday evening.
Ovadya manned the starting goalie position of his high school soccer team where he broke the school record for single season saves.
