MADISON, N.J. – D3baseball.com had announced during the week that it had selected Drew University junior second baseman Anthony Diaz to its national Team of the Week for games March 21-27.
Diaz slugged .579 (11-19) over five starts but was even more spectacular in Landmark Conference action, hitting .615 (8-13) in the Rangers’ three-game series with Elizabethtown.
The Little Egg Harbor, N.J., native went 5-for-6 with three RBI and a walk-off base hit in the bottom of the 11th to give the Rangers a 12-11 victory over the Blue Jays. the 5-foot-10, 155-pound Diaz hit safely in every contest and had multiple hits in three of five tilts.
Diaz, who played high school ball for Pinelands Regional, also had a perfect week defensively, making all 30 chances (16 putouts, 14 assists) without an error while helping turn four double plays.
For the season, Diaz is lacing .372, which ranks eight in the Landmark Conference, with .419 slugging and .481 on-base percentages.
