The Staten Island FerryHawks selected right-handed pitcher Hector Guance first overall in the Atlantic League Pro Showcase Draft, hosted by Prospect Dugout, today the league announced.
Guance, 26, was buzzing his fastball consistently at 96 miles per hour during the showcase, impressing several of the scouts in attendance.
He last pitched in the Balitmore Orioles organization for the Delmarva Shorebirds, going 9-6 with a 4.43 ERA with 244 strike outs in 108.0 innings of work in 24 games in 2019. Overall, for his professional career, Guance has posted a 22-21 record with a 4.41 ERA in 333.5 innings in 91 games across six seasons.
The Washington Nationals signed the Dominican Republic native to a minor league free agent contract in 2013.
