Wagner girls’ basketball played Murry Bergtraum in the PSAL Class “AA” quarterfinals, and Nicole Melious needed 35 and 39 points, respectively, to establish a new New York State record for points in a season and reach the 1000-point mark in the same campaign.
Well, the second-seeded Falcons upended the No. 7 Blazers, 77-69, Saturday at Achievement First Brooklyn, as the 5-foot-9 junior guard poured in 39 points to help lead her team to victory while accomplishing both individual achievements.
She added 10 rebounds and seven assists to help her claim another double-double.
Ex-Ossining player Andra Espinoza-Hunter previously held the single-season New York state girls’ high school points record at 995 points.
Wagner advances to the semifinals to face Francis Lewis on Sunday, March 13th, at 11:00 a.m. at a yet-to-be-determined site.
