It was a tooth-and-nail, back-and-forth affair between Fordham and George Mason Mens’ basketball. But the Rams stayed the course and edged the Patriots, 50-47, on Sunday afternoon at the Rose Hill Gym in the Bronx.
Trailing 47-46 with less than a minute left in the tilt, junior guard Kyle Rose nailed a huge three-pointer to give the Rams (12-13, 5-8) a 49-47 lead with 0.52 seconds to go in the contest.
Antrell Charlton sank a free throw to extend Fordham’s advantage to three points with five second remaining in the game.
George Mason led 45-41 with 7:31 to play, but the Patriots could convert only one field goal for the remainder of the contest, as the Rams closed out the game on a 9-2 run to claim victory.
Chuba Ohams, a 6-foot-9, 220-pound sixth-year Fordham grad student, was a dominate force. The Wadleigh High School (N.Y.) grad put up a double-double of a team-high 17 points to go along with game-leading 12 rebounds. Rose followed with nine points.
Guard Xaiver Johnson scored a game-best 19 points for George Mason while junior Josh Oduro dropped in nine points, grabbed nine rebounds, and had a game-high four blocks.
