Division III Hilbert College Football (N.Y.) program has offered August Martin High School senior quarterback Christopher Davis an official roster spot, tonight he Tweeted.
Davis was new to the quarterback position, as he took over last summer. But it did not take him long to find traction after the preseason and thusly put-up solid numbers in 2021.
He led the PSAL Falcons to 7-0 league record and to the playoffs, the first for Head Coach Kyle Allen at the school.
Davis completed 41 of 49 passes for 857 yards and 10 touchdowns and only one interception in four regular season league games. He also rushed for 97 yards on 14 carries with four scores.
Davis’ total stats were 89 completions on 134 pass attempts for 1336 yards and 15 touchdowns with nine interceptions. On the ground, he scampered for 123 yards on 41 carries and four scores.
In the playoffs, he completed 20 of 31 attempts for 310 yards and three TDs with three pickoffs in two contests.
Since David only played one season of high school football and is a solid athlete to boot, Allen said he possesses a high ceiling.
“Chris Davis has a tremendous upside,” Allen said. “He started quarterbacking in June. I had no way of recruiting (in the school) during the pandemic, but I’ve been trying to get him to play since he was a freshman,
“He finally gave in and did a veteran job. He’s such a cerebral player with poise and confidence,” the Canarsie, Brooklyn, native added. “I saw his ability to anticipate and his spatial awareness and understanding of leverage when I watched him play point guard. That’s what led me to put him under center. I wish I had more time with him. His future is bright, and he’s an even better person.”
The Hawks will kick off their inaugural season on Saturday, September 10th, by hosting Denison University, and be a member of the Allegany Mountain Colligate Conference (AMCC).
