CALDWELL, N.J.- Division II Caldwell University Men’s Basketball Head Coach Mark A. Corino reached another milestone in his storied coaching career. He earned his 604th career victory to surpass former Stockton University head coach Gerry Matthews to stand alone as the all-time leader in wins for an NCAA men’s basketball coach in the State of New Jersey.
Corino, who tied the state record this past Wednesday, earned his record-setting win with a 61-55 triumph against Holy Family University on Saturday afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest.
Matthews, who coached the Ospreys from 1985-201, finished his career with a 603-243 record.
Caldwell University will honor Coach Corino’s legacy and achievements later this month for “Coach Mark A. Corino Day” on Saturday, January 29 at 3 p.m. at the Cougars’ home game at the George R. Newman Center on Caldwell’s campus.
As far as continuing coaching and racking up more wins, Cornio told sports writer Jerry Del Priore last month that, “I still have a tremendous amount of passion for the game. I still enjoy working with these young men.”
The 6-5 Cougars return to the hardwood on Tuesday, January 11 as they travel to Post University for a CACC contest at 6 pm.
