The Wagner girls’ basketball team is off to an 8-3 overall start, 5-0 in PSAL Staten Island Class “A” league play.
The Lady Falcons, due in large in part, have junior Nicole Melious to thank for their success this season, as she has drained 432 points, an average of 39.3 ppg through 11 games.
Additionally, Melious has averaged 6.3 assists, 6.1 rebounds and 3.5 steals per contests.
Melious has already eclipsed the 1000-point mark this campaign, on her way to a possible 2000 points this season.
So, what is on the horizon for the 5-foot-8 guard in 2022?
Well, Melious is in conversation for New York State Gatorade Player of the Year Award, and worthy of an invite to become a member of the USA 17U squad, per high school hoops insiders.
AAU Hoopers NY director Bryan Williams said on his podcast last night that the Staten Island native is “the best shooter I’ve seen.”
Also, Wagner girls’ basketball head coach Tom Rizzo said she is a generational talent.
But winning with Wagner is first and foremost for Melious, and only time will tell what transpires for the ultra-talented player who thrives on the competition and the love and passion of the game.
2022, here comes Nicole Melious, bar none.
