Wagner Girls’ Basketball faced its toughest challenge to date when it took on New Dorp Friday at home.
But the combined efforts of super junior guard Nicole Melious and freshman Jayleen Hubbard was enough to turn back the Central Cougars, 68-61, in a PSAL A tilt to make it six consecutive wins for the Falcons.
Wagner trailed New Dorp, 30-26, going in the locker rooms. But the Falcons outscored the Central Cougars, 24-14, in the third quarter, and 18-17 in the final period for the win.
Melious dropped in game-best 29 points, dished out seven assists, and grabbed five rebounds while Hubbard contributed 15 in the victory. Sophomore Samantha Harrell added 11 points.
Freshman Jordanna Schrecker poured in 15 points and senior Victoria Kantzian chipped in 13 for New Dorp (6-1).
