NJ HS Girls’ Hoops Action for the Weekend of December 10-12


This past weekend (December 10-12) marked another New Jersey Girl’s high school basketball weekend in the 2021-22 season.

There were five teams that faced off against in- and out-of-state foes. Plus, 10 players that posted solid numbers. Here is how the action shook out.

Hun — 50, Agnes Irwin (PA) — 20

Emerging freshman standout Erin Maguire poured in a game-high 16 points in Hun’s convincing 50-20 victory over Pennsylvania’s Agnes Irwin Friday at home.

Senior Kiera Hahn scored 14 points while junior Sasha Mosie added 10 and a pair of game-highs, with six boards and four steals.

Vertias Christian — 45, Pilgrim Academy 34

Senior Anna Torppey dropped in a game-tying-best 14 points, and added five boards and five assists, while senior Charlotte Milanesi had a monster day, posting a triple-double with 14 points, 10 thefts, and 15 rebounds in a Lady Lions’ (4-0) 11-point win over host Pilgrim Academy Saturday.

Blair Academy — 75, Bishop O’Connell (VA) — 51

The Lady Buccaneers used four players in double figures to blow past host Bishop O’Connell, 74-51, on Saturday.

5-foot-10 senior Sophia Davis led the offensive attack with 19 points. Freshman Kenndey Henry followed with 15, sophomore Zeynep Ozel dropped in 14, and senior Tara Johnson had 12.

Markham (Canada) 67, Blair Academy 61

Blair Academy (3-1) suffered its first defeat of the young season, with Markham outscoring them, 24-13, in the fourth quarter of its contest at the She Got Game Classic in Washington D.C., on Sunday.

Henry is staking out her claim to be one of New Jersey’s top high school freshmen thus far, scoring 22 points. Additionally, Johnson contributed 13 while junior Jaylin Hartman and Davis added 12 apiece.
