Our Saviour Lutheran (N.Y.) senior guard Jaquan Sanders has verbally committed to St. John’s Men’s Basketball program, yesterday VerbalCommits.com Tweeted, securing a three-star, top-150 national college recruit.
The 6-foot-3, 170-pound Sanders had offers from UMass, Hofstra, Creighton, Bryant, Illinois, Xavier, and Manhattan. Providence, Auburn, Pittsburgh, and Kansas State were also recruiting him, per the New York Post.
Sanders, a Far Rockaway, Queens native, had played with current Red Storm members Posh Alexander and Dylan Addae-Wusu at Our Saviour Lutheran (OSL) in the Bronx.
Sanders possesses a solid jumper, as he averaged 19 points, seven assists, four rebounds and two steals while shooting 39 percent from beyond the arc and 44 percent from the floor last season for OSL.
The Johnnies’ 2022 recruiting class looks to be strong, as they have landed four-star guard AJ Storr (Bishop Gorman) and point guard Kolby King (Pembroke Pines Charter).
St. John’s posted a 16-11 overall record and went 10-9 in Big East Conference action this past campaign.
