Florence Township High School (NJ), Hoopers NY 2022 combo guard Iris Azcona has decommitted from Butler after she decided to attend and play basketball for the Big East college in December, yesterday she wrote on Twitter.
Azcona, a rising senior, poured in 192 points, pulled down 79 boards, and made 29 steals in 10 games this past season with Florence.
In limited action at Trenton Catholic Academy, Azcona scored 56 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in nine contests as a sophomore during the 2019-20 campaign.
Hoopers NY Head Coach Dan Melious sang the praises of Azcona’s play and character, not to mention her impressive work in the classroom, as she sports a 4.2 GPA, per her Twitter account.
“She’s a gym rat,” Melious said in an article in the month December on BrooklynSportsWorld.com. “She shoots with range, is a tough on-ball defender, strong, and sees the court well. Plus, she’s smart, has a high (basketball) IQ, and loves the game.”
