Tarique Foster Drains 25 to Guide Cardinal Hayes to CHSAA Spring Tournament Boy’s Hoops Title Over Xaverian


Cardinal Hayes (Bronx) used a game-high 25 points from junior wing Tarique Foster to knock off Xaverian (Brooklyn), 70-66, in the Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) spring tournament boy’s basketball final last night at Stepinac High School.

Foster scored 23 points in the second half to help ignite a spirited comeback.

Trailing 33-22 to start the third quarter, Foster nailed five three-pointers to help narrow the gap to 48-44, in favor of the Clippers.

But the Cardinals put up 26 points to Xaverian’s 18 to secure the win and championship.

Forward Tobe Awaka and D.J. Victory added 16 and 12 points, respectively, for Cardinal Hayes. Senior guard Nick Folk led the Clippers with 24 points while senior point guard Shawn Fulcher contributed 22 in the defeat.
