Mets Promote Top Prospect Francisco Alvarez to Brooklyn Cyclones

Francisco Alvarez, the Mets best minor leaguer and the fourth-ranked catching prospect in all of baseball, per MLB Pipeline, has been called up to the Brooklyn Cyclones (Advanced-A), according to multiple reports.

The move is warranted, as Alvarez had been clubbing at Low-A St. Lucie. The 19-year-old catcher laced an impressive .417 batting average (20-for-48) with 2 dingers and 12 RBI as well as a 1.218 OPS in 15 games.

The No. 38 overall prospect in the minors, Alvarez smacked a .312 average with seven homers and 26 RBI along with a .407 OBP in 157 at-bats in 42 contests between the Kingsport Mets and the Gulf coast Mets, both of which are rookie ball.

The transaction gives the Cyclones three top prospects, including Brett Baty (No. 4) and Ronny Mauricio (No. 2).
