The Lexington Legends of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (ALPB) have signed former New York Met right-handed pitcher Tim Peterson, today the team announced.
Peterson, who played for the University of Kentucky in Lexington, went on to pitch in 28 games for the Mets during the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
After boasting a 2.45 ERA with the Wildcats, New York selected Peterson in the 20th round of the 2012 MLB Amateur Draft. Subsequently, the Puyallup, Wash., native began his pro career with the Brooklyn Cyclones in 2012, and recorded a 1-1 record.
He returned to Brooklyn in 2013, and did not permit an earned run in 17.2 innings of work while whiffing 20 batters and surrendering a mere .119 average to opposing hitters.
The Mets promoted him to the full-season A Savanah Sand Gnats, where he went 1-0 and fanned 20 batters in 26.1 frames that same year.
Overall, during his eight seasons of pro baseball, Peterson has shined with a 19-14 record and a 3.20 ERA. He tossed 357 innings and struck out 414 batters while only walking 91 during that time span.
Peterson joins newly acquired pitcher Dustin Beggs, former Major Leaguers Henry Owens, Kevin McGowan, and Robert Carson on the Legends’ pitching staff this season, making it arguably one of the best rotations in the association.
