Julian Champagnie is enjoying a red-hot season with the St. John’s Men’s Basketball team, and people are taking notice.
The Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association named him Player of the Week on Tuesday.
The Big East’s leading scorer with 19.8 points per game guided the Red Storm to a pair of conference road victories this past week, draining 16 points and grabbing six boards in a Wednesday win over DePaul. He scored a game-high 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting and pulling down seven rebounds against Marquette on Sunday.
The Big East has recognized the former Bishop Loughlin High School star in each of the past three weeks, earning back-to-back BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll spots after being named the conference’s player of the week on Jan. 18.
Champagnie and the Red Storm will return to action on Wednesday when they host No. 3/3 Villanova on CBS Sports Network at 9 p.m. The game will also air locally on 570 AM WMCA.
