St. John’s Men’s Basketball team (9-7, 3-6) has reason to believe its future is bright, as the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) named freshman Posh Alexander as the Met Player of the Week, the program Tweeted on Tuesday.
Alexander, a Brooklyn native, averaged 19.0 points, 4.0 assists, and 3.0 steals in a 2-0 week for the Red Storm that featured a ranked road victory over then-No. 23/RV Connecticut.
The former Our Saviour Lutheran High School (Bronx, NY) standout shot 53.8 percent (14-of-26) from the field and 45.5 percent (5-of-11) from three-point land in those two wins.
Alexander drained 20 points in St. John’s non-conference finale against Utah Valley on Saturday, hitting 8-of-15 shoots from the floor.
The six-foot guard followed his impressive performance by scoring game-highs of 18 points and six assists versus the Huskies last Monday.
The Red Storm returns to action tomorrow, as it travels to Chicago, Ill., to face Big East rivals DePaul at 9:00 a. m.
