It took two newcomers–Vince Cole and Posh Alexander–to help the St. John’s Men’s Basketball Team stage a late-game 76-75 comeback victory over St. Peter’s (NJ) in Wednesday’s season opener at Carnesecca Arena.
The Red Storm (1-0) trailed the Peacocks (0-1) by four points with just 20 seconds remaining in the game. But Cole, a First Team NJCAA All-American last year at USC Salkehatchie, scored the game’s final five points, including a three-pointer with 8.5 seconds to go, to help St. John’s pull out the dramatic win.
Cole, a junior guard/forward, drained a game-high 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including a five-for-six performance from behind the arc, in his Division I debut.
Posh, a Brooklyn native and freshman guard out of Our Saviour Lutheran High School in the Bronx, dropped in 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting to go along with seven rebounds, five steals, and three assists.
Additionally, junior Isaih Moore, also an NJCAA All-American last season at Pearl River Community College (Miss), recorded 12 points and nine boards for the Red Storm.
Junior KC Ndefo led St. Peter’s with 16 points.
The Johnnies return to action today as they host La Salle at 2 p.m. in the final game of The Lapchick Tournament. You can view the tilt on FS1 and listen to it on AM 970.
