Dover High School (NJ) power forward Rafael Castro has verbally committed to Big East Providence, Adam Zagoria Tweeted yesterday.
Castro held 13 scholarship offers, including additional one from his home state of New Jersey–the Seton Hall Pirates, another Big East Conference member, according to NJ.com.
Other college scholarship offers included: Miami, Dayton, Florida, Xavier, UMASS, VCU, among others.
A consensus three-star recruit, Rivals ranks Castro as the No. 136 prospect in the nation and 247 Sports has him at the No. 139 spot.
The 6-foot-10, 200-pound senior averaged 18.3 points, 16.3 rebounds, and 4.8 blocks per game for Dover (19-8), with a total of 495 points and 440 rebounds for the season last year.
But Castro proved his worth when it mattered most, as he exploded for 30 points, 17 rebounds, and 10 rejections in Dover’s 57-54 win over Morris Hills in the first round of the North 1, Group 3 tournament in the postseason.
The Frias posted a 19-12 mark and went 12-6 in the Big East Conference in the 2019-20 campaign.
