After much speculation, St. Raymond High School’s (Bronx) Malachi Smith today verbally committed to Dayton, according to multiple media outlets on Twitter.
The 6-foot-1-inch, 165-pound rising senior with the Ravens had picked the Flyers over Georgetown and Rutgers, as well as several other top college hoop programs.
However, Smith, a fantastic guard who is the brother of former Dayton player Schoochie Smith, said his decision had nothing to do with his sibling, just more of his own choice because the college seems to be a good fit for him.
Many New York City high school hoops insiders consider Smith, who also plays with the AAU PSA Cardinals, to be among the top players in the city in his class.
The Flyers enjoyed a tremendous season, posting an overall 29-2 record and went 18-0 in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
