The Manhattan Jaspers Women’s Basketball team has added New Rochelle High School standout Nia Bailey to the fold, today the program Tweeted.
“Nia is another exciting and dynamic local talent that will excel in our uptempo style of play,” Manhattan Women’s Head Coach Heather Vulin said of the 5-foot-9 guard out of New Rochelle, NY, on gojaspers.com. “We feel her athleticism and length will make her a formidable defender in the MAAC.”
Bailey earned a few hoops accolades last season, including a 2019-20 Conference I All-Section selection and the Journal News/LoHud named her a Girls Basketball Honorable Mention for Westchester and Putnam Counties.
During the regular season, Bailey ranked among the area’s top scorers. Though the Lady Huguenots lost in the opening round of the Section I Class AA tournament this past February, she led seventh-seeded New Rochelle with a game-best 13 points while adding seven rebounds and three steals.
“I’m excited to be a Jasper,” said Bailey, who also played for the Hoopers NY AAU program. “I’m going to start a new family, make new memories, and win championships!”
Manhattan completed the 2019-20 regular campaign with a 15-14 overall record and went 12-8 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action, tying for third place in the MAAC rankings, the program’s best conference finish since 2011.
