Former ROH Champ, Indie Pro Wrestling Standout Xavier Passes Away

I just read on Twitter from Velvet Sky that former Ring of Honor (ROH) Champ Xavier, known outside the ring as John Kirius, today has passed away. He was 42. Details of his death have yet to emerge.

A talented competitor, I remember Xaiver as a mainstay on the East Coast indies in the early 2000s. I am pretty sure I watched him wrestle on the same cards with Low KiCrowbar, and The Amazing Red.

Xavier was perhaps best known for his appearances with Ring of Honor between 2002 and 2004, where he became the second ROH Champion.

ECW star Tony Devito trained Xaiver, who last wrestled in October 2016, defeating Indigo Child at ICW One Night Only.

The New York City native was scheduled to square off against Jay Lethal at ROH Past vs. Present on March 14.

Unfortunately, the pandemic caused the card, and all other live events, to be canceled just days before the show.
