Iona Men’s College Basketball Offers Montverde Academy’s Dariq Whitehead

After Iona College offered Legacy Early College High School (SC) forward Perry Smith, Jr. earlier in the week, the Gales, on Wednesday, did the same to Montverde Academy (FL) guard Dariq Whitehead, today Verbal Commits Tweeted.

Whitehead, a 6-foot-5, 190-pound, five-star rising junior at the national powerhouse boy’s prep hoops program, holds offers from Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Maryland, Seton Hall, Rutgers, Louisville, LSU, West Virginia, USC, Arkansas-Little Rock, Memphis, among other schools, per sources.

Several high school basketball insiders believe that the Newark, N.J., native and younger brother of NFL linebacker Tahir Whitehead could follow the path from high school straight to NBA in 2022 when the one-and-done college rule could be changed.

Whitehead will be just 17 by the time the 2022 NBA Draft rolls around, so he might require some mental and physical polish before diving into NBA water.

However, if the NCAA rule is done and Whitehead does decide to enter the NBA Draft, he will likely join fellow high school basketball stars Emoni Bates and Jalen Duren in the 2022 NBA draft.
