Memphis Men’s Basketball Offers Montverde Academy’s Dariq Whitehead

Dariq Whitehead, a rising junior out of Montverde (FL) Academy, is one of prep hoops’ most promising stars, and today Head Coach Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway and the University of Memphis made the Newark, N.J., native an offer to join the program, Whitehead announced on Twitter today.

Whitehead, the younger brother of Carolina Panthers linebacker Tahir Whitehead, owns offers from Seton Hall, Rutgers, Louisville, LSU, West Virginia, USC, Arkansas-Little Rock and Oklahoma State, along with other schools.

The thing is, the 6-foot-5 point guard could be included in the first class to potentially go from high school straight to the NBA if the one-and-done NCAA rule is discarded and the old rule is revived, according to sources.

Whitehead will be just 17 by the time the 2022 NBA Draft rolls around, so he might require some mental and physical polish before diving into the NBA water.

If the NCAA rule changes, and Whitehead does decide to enter the NBA Draft, he likely join fellow high school basketball stars Emoni Bates and Jalen Duren into the 2022 NBA draft.
