Medgar Evers College Preparatory School (MECPS) girl’s basketball program enjoyed a big day today, as two Lady Cougars committed to colleges, the school hoops’ program Tweeted.
Senior guard Kaia Johnson committed to Division-2 College of Staten Island of the East Coast Conference, while senior Kayla “K.Will” Williams is headed to Clarendon College, a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) member, which plays in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) in Clarendon, Texas.
Johnson averaged 12.22 points, 6.44 rebounds, and nine assists per game in the 2019-20 season in nine contests.
Williams leaves the MECPS’ program as a four-year starter who drained a total of 1,172 points, becoming the program’s all-time leading scorer. She also tailed the most ever made career three-pointers and most treys made in a single game at 10.
Additionally, Williams paced the team in scoring average with 15.10 ppg in the 2019-20 campaign.
The Lady Cougars made it all the way to PSAL’s girls’ Class A semifinal tilt before the league pulled the plug on the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
