Brooklyn High School for Law Tech continues to produce great student-athletes at all levels of collegiate sports, and Tianna Cates is a testament to that profound statement.
The St. Francis College (Brooklyn) sophomore captured the Coaches’ Award for outdoor track, the school announced today on Twitter as part of its Terrier Awards Takeover on various social media sites.
Cates, who entered Division-1 St. Francis along with Lady Jet teammate Zhoey Starkey, took up the sport as a nine-year-old and really thrived as a Lady Jet sprinter in high school.
Both former BHSLT student-athletes help set an athletic and scholastic precedent at the small yet growingly successful school on the Bedford Stuverstant/Bushwick border of Brooklyn.
“Yes, both are great kids, and we are super proud (of them),” BHSLT athletic director Michael Levy gushed. “Character is a big (deal) for what we look for in student-athletes.”
Additionally, cross-country and track & field Head Coach Christopher Mills sang the praises of both the men’s and women’s teams for breaking personal bests this season on various social media channels.
