Memphis Tigers’ Precious Achiuwa has declared for the 2020 NBA draft, he tweeted today.
In a heartfelt letter on Tweeter, the 6-foot-9, 225-pound Achiuwa thanked all the first responders in NYC, as well as his family, the coaching staff at the University of Memphis, including ex-NBA player Penny Hardaway, and the Tiger Nation for their love and support.
The Nigerian-born forward played one season of hoops at Memphis, averaging 15.8 points, 10.8 rebounds and 1.0 assist en route to earning AAC Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors.
The five-star recruit out of Montverde Academy, a prep school in Montverde, Florida, and the former McDonald’s All American also played for Our Saviour Lutheran School in The Bronx for two years, then he attended Saint Benedict’s Preparatory School in Newark, New Jersey, in his junior year.
Achiuwa will join likely first-round pick Cole Anthony, who left the University of North Carolina after one year, in the NBA draft.
