The Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), one of the three major junior ice hockey leagues which constitute the Canadian Hockey League, yesterday selected Morristown-Beard’s Nick Vantassell, a sophomore on the Crimson hockey team, in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection Draft.
The Spitfires picked Vantassell in the 14th round, 280th overall. The six-foot, 154-pound center tallied 16 goals and 19 assists in the 2019-20 New Jersey high school hockey season.
Additionally, the Baskin Ridge resident helped Mo-Beard to a 20-5-1 record and captured the Mennen Cup with a 5-1 win over Randolph, a game in which he scored a marker and chipped in with a helper.
Vantassell also plays for the New Jersey Rockets Hockey Club 15.
The OHL is for players aged 16–21. There are currently 20 teams in the OHL; seventeen in Ontario, two in Michigan, and one in Pennsylvania.
