After receiving an offer from Division-I Hofstra University’s Men’s Basketball program on Thursday, March 19th, it didn’t take Pensacola State sophomore guard Shawndarius Cowart long to make a decision. Cowart yesterday had announced on Twitter that he has committed to the Pride.
Cowart, a two-star recruit who attended Pensacola High School in Pensacola, Florida, picked Hofstra over Southeastern Louisiana, Wichita State, Louisiana–Monroe and Grambling State.
The six-foot-two, 160-pound Cowart averaged 12 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 4.1assits per game as a Pirate freshman.
The Pride posted a 26-8 record, captured the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship with a 70-61 win over Northeastern, and earned an NCAA Tournament bid.
Hofstra has produced Justin Wright-Foreman, who played with the team for four years and graduated to the NBA’s Utah Jazz, where he’s on a two-way contract with the Salt Lake City Stars of the NBA G League.
