Christ the Kings’ Ryan Myers Commits to Iona

Christ the King (Queens, NY) six-foot shooting guard Ryan Myers, an East New York, Brooklyn, native, has verbally committed to head coach Rick Pitino and Iona College, John Rothstein announced on Twitter today.

It was Pitino’s second commitment since he landed the Gales’ coaching job last week.

Myers averaged 21.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists last season for the Royals.

Myers also considered another local school: Fordham University but went with Iona because he said Pitino and staff were genuine in their recruitment approach, and the school has a lot more to offer than just hoops.

“Coach Rick Pitino and [assistant] Tom Abatemarco were genuine as they recruited me,” Myers said on Zagsblog.com. “They took time to speak with my mom and others important to me in my life and I believe that what they have to offer will help not only on the basketball court but in life in general.”

Pitino’s get of Myers has local high school and college basketball insiders believing it will help out the Gales Men’s Basketball in the tri-state area recruiting department.

Pitino landed his first commitment in JUCO guard Tahlik Chavez, a six-foot-two, 180-pound combo guard from Garden City Community College in Kansas.
