Former Staten Island Yankee righty Clarke Schmidt is rising up the New York Yankees’ prospect lists, as Baseball America has ranked him No. 2, while Baseball Prospectus has listed him at the ninth spot.
Schmidt pitched well in last season, posting a 6-5 record with 3.57 ERA while whiffing 102 batters and only allowing 28 walks in 90.2 innings in 19 games at three minor league stops.
A 2017 MLB first-round draft pick of the Yankees, Clarke, a six-foot-one, 200-pounder, registered a 0-1 mark with 1:08 ERA in 8.1 frames in two starts in Staten Island New York-Penn League).
That same year, the Acworth, Georgia, native amassed a 0-3 record with 3.09 ERA and struck out 30 hitters and permitted just six bases on balls at three minor league levels.
The 23-year-old South Carolina University alumnus has a career 6-8 record with 132 punch outs and 34 walks in 114 innings in 27 contests.
As his numbers speak for themselves, Clarke is a strikeout pitcher with impeccable control, and a bright future ahead of him.
