Brooklyn Basketball Player Matt Scott Inks Deal with London City Royals

By Jerry Del Priore

Earlier this month, 23-year-old guard Matt Scott, a Brooklyn native, signed a deal with the London City Royals of the British Basketball League (BBL).

Scott received his first taste of professional hoops with German Pro A side BV Chemnitz 99 (Chemnitz Niners) in 2018. He played well in his 26 games with the team, reaching high marks of 17 points (88-71 win at Baunach), five rebounds (88-74 win at Ehingen) and four assists against Artland Dragons.

After a successful stint as a high school student-athlete at Brooklyn High School for Law and Technology (BHSLT), Scott accepted a scholarship at Niagara University in upstate New York, an NCAA D-1 program, which was his only offer.

However, Scott worked hard and emerged as a standout player, averaging 14.13 points, 2.24 assists and a TRB of 6.05 in his four-year Purple Eagle career.

Scott finished his college basketball career by achieving the seventh most points ever scored in the history of Niagara’s Men’s Basketball Program. For his outstanding efforts, the MAAC honored him with the Player of the Week award an impressive four times – three in one season – and NABC All-District (1) First Team selection in his senior year in 2018.

Scott played three years of varsity hoops for BHSLT, where he averaged 28.4 points, 11.8 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game in his final season.
