The New York-Penn Leauge (NYPL) yesterday announced the squads for the All-Star Game set for Wednesday, August 21 at 7:00 p.m. at Richmond County Bank Ballpark at St. George, with New York City clubs — the Brooklyn Cyclones and Staten Island Yankees — well represented.
The Cyclones will have five players on the Blue Team: second baseman Wilmer Reyes, designated hitter Joe Genord, and pitchers Mitch Regan, Matt Cleveland, and Garrison Bryant.
On the Red Squad, Staten Island will send three players to the game: second baseman Ezequiel Duran, catcher Carlos Narvaez, and pitcher Anderson Munoz.
Reyes ranks among the NYPL leaders in batting average at .333, OPS at .356, hits (57), and total bases (77) across 45 games thus far. Genord, the Mets’ 2019 ninth-round draft selection out of the University of South Florida, sits in the top five in the league in both RBI (32) and home runs (8) through 50 affairs.
Bryant (4-1, 2.59, 59 innings) has been stellar on the bump for Brooklyn this year. Dating back to July 9th, New York’s 2016 36th round draft pick has allowed just four runs on 18 hits over 36.0 innings and is 2-0 over the span. Opponents have hit a measly .145 against him over the stretch.
Cleveland is 3-2 with a 3.46 ERA with batters hitting just .208 against him over 11 starts and 54.2 frames of work, while Regan, the Mets’ 2019 15th round selection out of Creighton University, has pitched to the tune of a 2.70 ERA with 22 strikeouts and only two walks in 26.2 innings.
For the Yankees, Duran, a power threat, has mashed 11 dingers and 33 RBI with a .271 batting average in 203 at-bats. Narvaez is hitting .273 with a longball and 11 RBI to go along with a .362 OBP in 110 at-bats.
Munoz, a versatile arm, sports a 5-2 mark with a 2.87 ERA in 16 contests across 69 innings of work.
Honorary General Manager and the borough’s president James Oddo selected Team Blue, while honorary General Manager and Congressman Max Rose picked Team Red.
Cyclones manager and Mets legend Edgardo Alfonzo will guide Team Blue, and Staten Island manager David Adams will lead Team Red.
Gates for the 2019 NYPL All-Star Game will open at 3 p.m. Former New York Yankees Mickey Rivers and Bucky Dent are scheduled to sign autographs during the game. Additionally, Yankees great Bernie Williams will be in attendance to accept his induction into the NYPL Hall of Fame and throw out the first pitch.
Also, there will be a Home Run Derby before the tilt that will pit members of the Fire Department of New York and the New York Police Department against each other, and each team will suit up members from each All-Star squad.
