Columbia first baseman and former Brooklyn Cyclone Chase Chambers went 4-4 with two RBI in Monday’s 4-2 win against the Rome Braves at State Mutal Stadium.
In the top of the first, Chambers doubled home Mark Vientos to stake the Fireflies to a 1-0 lead.
But Trey Harris smacked a two-run home run to left, giving the Braves a 2-1 advantage in the bottom of the first frame.
In the top of the sixth, Rome pitcher Jose Olague uncorked a wild pitch, allowing Cuba-born infielder Gerson Molina to score and tie the contest at 2-2. Then, Juan Uriarte’s (Brooklyn, 2018) double plated Wagner Lagrange (Brooklyn, ’18, ’17) for a 3-2 lead.
Chambers singled to left, scoring Ronny Mauricio to give Columbia a 4-2 lead and eventual victory.
Tylor Megill (1-0), another ex-Cyclone and New York Mets 8th round pick in the 2018 MLB amateur draft, tossed 1.2 innings of scoreless ball for the win.
