The battle of inter-city rivals proved to be not much of a match for St. John’s University men’s basketball team, as it walloped St. Francis College Brooklyn, 86-52, Wednesday night at Carnesecca Arena in Queens, New York.
The victory improved the Red Storm to an unblemished 11-0 mark to start the season. The Terries dropped their record to 7-5.
St, John’s had four players in double-digit scoring figures. Sophomore guard/forward LJ Figueroa led the charge for the Jonnies with 13 points and nine rebounds and red-shirted sophomore guard Mikey Dixon also put up 13 in the lopsided win.
Red-shirted senior forward Marvin Clark II had 12 points and seven boards and Brooklyn native point guard Shamorie Ponds also posted 12 and grabbed five rebounds.
St. Francis sophomore guard Chauncey Hawkins drained a game-high 16 points in the losing effort. Jalen Jordan, another sophomore guard, added 11 points for the Terries.
