NY Mets Ink Outfielder, Former Columbia Lion Dario Pizzano to Minor League Contract

Christmas came a little early for outfielder Dario Pizzano, as the New York Mets signed the minor league free agent to a contract, he posted on his Instagram account today.

Pizzano’s signing provides minor league outfield depth for the Mets, and he’ll likely beging the 2019 season in AAA Syracuse.

The Seattle Mariners selected Pizzano in the 15th round of the 2012 MLB amateur draft out of Ivy League Columbia.

The 27-year-old played seven years in Seattle’s system, reaching as high as AAA in 2016 and 2017. Last season, however, he spent all year in Double-A, where he slashed .285/.361/.433 with 11 home runs and 59 RBI in 400 at-bats.

A new, fresh start with New York could be just what Pizzano requires to raise his level of play.

But he’ll need to display a little more power, as his career-high in homers is 13. Plus, past scouting reports have labeled the former little league hero with limited athletic ability, cutting into his outfield range.

But Pizzano has been serviceable thus far in his minor league career. So, time will tell how well he can handle the outfield going forward.
