Mets’ 2018 First-Rounder Jarred Kelenic Picks Up Three Hits in First Pro Game

Makes Minor League Outfielder Jarred Kelenic gets Three Hits Friday.

If Jarred Kelenic’s first professional game with the rookie level Gulf Coast Mets is any indication of things to come at Flushing, the New York Mets have a good find in their first-round 2018 MLB draft pick.

Kelenic, whom New York signed in mid-June, went 3-4 with a triple, a RBI and two runs scored in the Mets’ 7-0 win over the Astros Friday night.

Kelenic is a talented prospect because of his five-tool potential, most notably of which is his advanced bat. Add in his speed, and you have a nice skill set for an intriguing ball player. In fact, several baseball insiders considered him to possess the best power-speed combination in the draft class.

Kelenic bypassed high school baseball–due to the cold Wisconsin weather, forcing a late start to season–to play summer travel ball and with Team USA. He was Team USA’s top hitter in 2016 and helped lead it to their second consecutive 18U gold medal in 2017.
