It took an offensive outburst by the Columbia Fireflies (33-31) for hurler Anthony Kay to register the 9-4 victory over the Lexington Legends (Kansas City Royals, 35-31) Thursday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in a South Atlantic League (SAL) game.
Kay (3-3. 4.30 ERA), the New York Mets first round selection in the 2016 MLB amateur draft, gave up four runs on eight hits while whiffing nine and walking two in five innings of work.
Columbia’s big inning came in the top of the fourth, as the team scored six runs to give it a 8-4 lead.
Fireflies left fielder Matt Winaker went 2-4 with a double and three RBI, while center fielder Quinn Brodey stroked 3-4 with a walk and two RBI.
Columbia right fielder Raphael Gladu and first baseman Jeremy Vasquez had a RBI apiece.
