Mets Select Texas High School Pitcher Simeon Woods-Richardson in Second Round

Mets Pick Texas HS Hurler Simeon Woods-Richardson in Second Round of 2018 MLB Draft.

The New York Mets went young with their second pick (48th overall) in the 2018 MLB amateur draft Monday, selecting 17-year-old right-handed pitcher Simeon Woods-Richardson out of Kempner High School in Sugar Land, Texas.

Woods-Richardson is a 6-foot-4, 210-pound hurler who tops out with a 95 MPH heater and has three other offerings, including a developing change up and curveball. He regularly hits 90-93 MPH on the radar gun, according to multiple media sources.

Scouts rave about his promise, saying he has an intense competitive nature. With the proper professional guidance and more mental and physical maturity added to his body, Richardson’s pitching ability should be able to flourish in New York’s system, if he does decide to ink with the Mets.

Woods-Richardson is slated to be a Texas Longhorn in the fall, but the draft slot carries with it an estimated signing bonus of approximately $1.5 million dollars. That’s makes it hard to turn down for anyone at any rate.

Woods-Richardson Tweeted: “I thank God above, and I can’t wait to be in the Mets organization,” making it believable that he’ll sign with New York.

He has until July 6th to make a decision regarding his baseball future.
