Firefly centerfielder Quinn Brodey smacked two hits, including a double, and drove in a run and score another in Columbia’s 8-3 victory over the Hickory Crawdads (11-20, Texas Rangers) Friday night at L.P. Frans Stadium.
Brodey is third in the South Atlantic League (SAL) in RBI (25) and extra-base knocks (17). The Californian and former Brooklyn Cyclone is now batting an impressive .359 on the road this campaign.
Shortstop Hansel Moreno stroked a two-run triple in the top of the fourth, while left fielder Matt Winaker slugged a solo dinger, his second of the season, in the top of the fifth for a 4-2 Firefly (18-16) lead.
Starting pitcher Joe Cavallaro (4-1, 2.41 ERA) tossed 5.2 innings of three run ball, all earned, while striking out seven hitters for the win. Reliever Stephen Villines fanned six hitters in 2.1 frames. Try Cobb closed out the tilt with a scoreless ninth.
