First baseman Jeremy Vasquez continued his torrid hitting pace, going 2-4 with a double, two RBI and a walk in the Columbia Fireflies’ 9-1 win over the Lexington Legends (Royals, 13-13) Wednesday afternoon at Spirt Communications Park in South Atlantic League (SAL) action.
Vasquez’s productive day at the plate extended his on-base streak to a franchise-best 25 contests, and now he sports a SAL-leading on-base percentage of .467, to go along with a sizzling .341 batting average.
Marcel Renteria (W, 2-1) recorded his second victory of the season in his fourth start after he allowed just one run in 7.2 innings of work, which was the longest a Fireflies hurler has pitched in 2018.
Columbia outfielder Matt Winaker launched a solo shot, his first of his professional career, in the lopsided win.
