Colombia Firefly first baseman Jeremy Vasquez is putting up big numbers in the South Athletic League (SAL). The New Mets’ 2017 28th round pick in last year’s MLB amateur draft is slugging a .349 average with two home runs and 17 RBI to go along with an impressive .488/.619/1.107 spilt in 63 at bats in 19 games.

Vasquez smacked a homer and a triple and drew a walk in the Fireflies’ 6-5 extra inning win over the Charleston RiverDogs Wednesday night at Joe Riley Park.

The 21-year-old Floridian’s franchise-record on-base streak now swells to 19 straight contests to begin the season.

After the Mets drafted Vasquez out of Nova Southeastern University, they shipped him to Kingsport (R), where he performed well. In 135 at-bats in 36 games, he hit .296/.394/.511 with eight doubles, seven homers, and 30 RBI.

New York promoted Vasquez to Brooklyn, where he didn’t fare as well, batting .225 with a dinger and eight RBI in 102 at-bats in 31 tilts.

However, Vasquez’s sizzling start to the 2018 campaign has people taking notice thus far, as he’s a prospect to keep an eye on, on several watch lists.
